I can still picture the moment we bought our very first RV.
At the heart of it, we just loved to travel. Seeing new places, trying new things. But hauling our luggage in and out of hotel rooms every night? That got old fast.
We also had two big Labrador Retrievers, and suddenly every place we looked at was charging steep pet fees. Many still do.
At the time, all our kids had finished high school, and we had the chance to relocate across the country for a new job. We knew we’d need to make a few cross-country trips from California to Florida to get everything moved and settled.
So we made the leap and bought a 37-foot Class A RV.
We took it for a test run. Just a few hours down the road to a friend’s ranch on five acres. That’s when the lists began. What we needed. What we wanted. What would make it feel like ours. We focused on comfort, function, and being road-ready for long hauls. Over time, we added in the extras. Whatever fit the budget and made life a little easier.
That was over two decades ago. Since then, we’ve logged thousands of miles, worked jobs in incredible places, met friends who became family, and gathered more stories than we can count. Along the way, we even upgraded to a larger RV. Honestly, it feels more spacious than a one-bedroom apartment.
And through most of those years, we’ve lived in our RV full time.
We wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s been the ultimate escape and the most flexible way to live and work we’ve ever found.
The Lifestyle We Found
We’ve taken on consulting and contract work in both small towns and big cities. Sometimes just for a few months, sometimes for years. When the right opportunity came along, we packed it all in, stowed everything, disconnected, and hit the road.
Living in an RV doesn’t mean giving things up. It means choosing more of what actually matters. Time, freedom, flexibility, and real experiences.
No packing and unpacking. No moving trucks or rental deposits.
When you’re ready for the next chapter, you simply drive there.
Is it always easy? Not at all.
Is it worth it? Absolutely.
What We Learned on Our First Trip
Here’s the first big thing we figured out. You don’t need to know everything before you start.
But there are a few key things that need to go right.
Here’s what helped us:
- Get a good night’s sleep. On night one and every night after.
- Set up with confidence the first time so you’re not second-guessing things at midnight.
- Have a way to make a real cup of coffee or tea when you wake up.
Without those three things, it’s easy to feel frustrated and start wondering if RVing was a mistake.
That’s why we created a simple RV Setup Checklist. Just a step-by-step reminder so we wouldn’t forget the basics. And over time, we realized other folks needed the same thing.
There are plenty of RV websites out there, packed with advice. But what we needed was something simple and repeatable. Something we could keep on the dashboard and follow every time we pulled into a new spot.
So we put together a set of straightforward, proven checklists and planners to help others get started without the guesswork.

Thinking About Getting Started?
You don’t need to sell everything or hit the road full time. But if RV life keeps tugging at your curiosity, don’t ignore it.
If you’re wondering about the best coffee maker for travel or which RV mattress topper is actually comfortable, we’ve got you covered. We’ll be sharing our go-to products. The ones we’ve tested ourselves and still use.
We’ve also collected tips, advice, and real-life stories from fellow travelers, campgrounds, and RV parks. Everyone you meet has something to teach you. You’ll pick up all kinds of ideas to improve your own journey.
We’ve gone from tent camping out of a minivan to towing fifth wheels the size of a small house. And just about everything in between.
And if you’ve ever felt that pull to try something different…
You’re Not Running Away. You’re Running Toward Something Better.
That’s what we’ve come to believe.
This lifestyle isn’t about escaping life. It’s about building one that fits you. Whether you’re on your own, with a partner, or raising a family, it’s about living on your terms. At your pace. With your priorities front and center.
And we’re here to help you figure it out.
It’s fun. Freeing. Unforgettable. Full of open roads, fresh air, and star-filled nights.
But yes, it can also be hard. It can be scary.
Some days test your patience, your stamina, and your sanity.
But the good days? They make it all worth it.
